Justin Rose showed patience and some red-hot putting in his second round to move into US PGA Championship contention at Oakland Hills.
The Englishman carded a three-under-par 67 to match former Open champion Ben Curtis for the low round of the tournament so far.
It took him back to level par with an aggregate of 140, placing Rose just a stroke behind clubhouse leader JB Holmes with the afternoon groups still to finish.
Rose will have to keep up his performance on the greens if he is to capture his first major championship.
His best performance this year in the majors was a tied 36th finish at the Masters, however he has two top-five finishes in his past - at the Masters and US Open.
He birdied both par-fives on Friday, added two more birdies, and gave just one shot back with a bogey at 18 after finding bunkers with each of his first two shots.
