Great Britain claimed two medals at the European Swimming Championships in Berlin on Monday.

Jay Lelliott claimed bronze in the men's 400 metres freestyle final, while Aimee Willmott was third in the women's 400m medley final.

Their medals came five days after Daniel Fogg secured Britain's first of the championships on the opening day last Wednesday by claiming gold in the men's 5km open water time trial.

Lelliott, who was joined in his final by fellow Briton Stephen Milne, clinched third place with a new personal best time of three minutes 47.50 seconds, while Milne was sixth in 3min 48.55secs.

The race was won by Serbia's Velimir Stjepanovic in a time of 3:45.66, while Andrea Mitchell D'Arrigo secured silver for Italy in a time of 3:46.91.

Willmott, a double silver medal winner at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, claimed Britain's second medal of the day by winning bronze in her race in a time of 4:34.69, with Hungary's Katinka Hosszu taking gold in a championship-record time of 4:31.03.

Willmott told British Swimming's website: "I am happy to come away with the bronze after the Commonwealth Games.

"I knew the 400 would be the hardest to do back-to-back and that was my third fastest time ever.

"I paced the race a lot better than in Glasgow. Even though my time wasn't as quick I learnt more from that race than I did at the Commonwealths."

Britain could add to their medal haul on Tuesday, with A dam Peaty and Ross Murdoch set to race in the men's 100m breaststroke final and Ben Proud and Adam Barrett doing battle in the men's 50m butterfly final.

Lizzie Simmonds (200m backstroke), Fran Halsall (50m butterfly) and Chris Walker-Hebborn (100m backstroke) also compete in medal races.
