Federer eases through in Dubai
Roger Federer survived a late wobble to cruise into the second round of the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships.
Serving at 5-4 in the second set, after winning the first 6-1 on the hard court of the Dubai Duty Free Stadium against Germany's Benjamin Becker, Federer had two match points but let slip a 40-15 lead.
Becker, however, failed to take advantage of what proved to be his only break point of the hour-long match as Federer, a five-time winner of the event, eventually wrapped up a routine victory, 6-1 6-4.
The world number eight, seeded four at this event, will play either the Czech Republic's Radek Stepanek or American Michael Russell in the last 16.
Dmitry Tursunov is also through to the second round after the number eight seed defeated qualifier Lukas Lacko 7-5 6-1.
Andreas Seppi had to come from behind to beat Florian Mayer 4-6 6-1 7-5, whilst Roberto Bautista-Agut eased past qualifier Adrian Ungur 6-1 6-3 to take his place in the second round and a likely meeting with number one seed Novak Djokovic.
