Bradley beats Marquez
Timothy Bradley beat Juan Manuel Marquez by split decision in Las Vegas to retain his WBO world welterweight title.
The American, no stranger to close fights having controversially beaten Manny Pacquiao last year, won by 116-112 and 115-113 according to two of the judges, while the other scored it 115-113 in favour of Marquez.
In a largely tactical skirmish, the biggest hit came in the closing moments of the final round when Bradley caught the 40-year-old Mexican with a big left hook, though he had been the stronger fighter throughout and deserved the victory.
On the undercard, Orlando Cruz failed in his attempt to become the first openly gay world champion as he was stopped by Orlando Salido in the seventh round of a contest for the vacant WBO featherweight title.
