The launch of a controversial Government database containing details of every child in the country will be delayed by a further three months because of technical issues.

ContactPoint, a £224 million computer system carrying personal information about all under-18s, was due to come online in April this year.

The date was put back to October after concerns over data security following the loss of child benefit data by HM Revenue and Customs.

It will now be delayed until January next year, children's minister Kevin Brennan said.
