The girl had described herself as "devil child", the family court heard

A four-year-old girl who described herself as a "devil child" is to be taken from the care of her mother after a family court judge ruled that she had been sexually abused and lived in "a harsh, critical and abusive environment".

The youngster had told how her mouth had been taped to keep her quiet and how her ankles had been bound together with tape so that she stayed in bed, said Judge Rebecca Brown.

She often said "I'm bad, aren't I?", washed her hands repeatedly and appeared to have a compulsion to eat, the judge was told.

And, the judge said, there was compelling evidence that the little girl had suffered sexual abuse and encountered "inappropriate sexual experiences".

Detail has emerged in a written ruling by Judge Brown following a hearing in a family court at Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire.

Judge Brown concluded that the little girl had been sexually abused by her mother's partner - who the youngster called "daddy".

And the judge said the youngster's mother - who had "psychological and personality difficulties" - had exhibited inappropriate sexual behaviour in front of her and had failed to protect her.

She ruled that the little girl should be placed for adoption.

The judge did not identify the little girl - or her parents - but said litigation had started after concerns were raised by social workers at Buckinghamshire County Council.

Judge Brown said the little girl was currently in temporary foster care and undergoing therapy.

She said the little girl's foster carer had kept a record of what the youngster said and did.

The girl had called herself "devil child", on one day had asked to wash her hands more than 50 times and said: "please tell daddy I've been good" and had said mummy "headbutts me" and mummy "bites me".

Judge Brown said on one occasion the youngster had told her foster carer: "Shall I show what mummy does to me?"

The little girl had then picked up a strip of sticky tape and put it over her mouth, said the judge.

Her foster carer had asked how that "makes her feel".

The little girl had replied: "I cry, I'm scared," said Judge Brown.

She had then used strips of tape to bind her ankles together and added: "I stay in bed then don't I?"

The little girl had become hysterical when the bedroom window rattled in the wind and screamed, "It's daddy! It's daddy! He's come to get me," added Judge Brown

"(Her foster carer) told me that she constantly asks for food and she wants to put food in her mouth," said the judge. "The foster carer has seen (her) put crayons in her mouth, she had drunk vinegar and has even picked up waste food. She appears to have a compulsion to eat."

Judge Brown added: "(The foster carer) told me that (the little girl) often says, 'I'm naughty aren't I? I'm bad aren't I?'"

The judge said the girl's mother and her partner had argued that the youngster "told proven untruths and therefore cannot be believed".
