Katy Perry has reportedly turned down the chance to be a judge on American Idol.

The Firework singer was apparently offered 20 million dollars to join Mariah Carey on the judging panel when the US show returns in January, but she refused, TMZ.com reports.

When asked about becoming a TV talent show judge last month, Katy said: "People have reached out to me about the possibility of being involved and it's not right for me yet."

Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez announced their exits from the show last month, and it's been rumoured that remaining judge Randy Jackson may take more of a back seat mentoring role in the new series.

Alanis Morissette, Nicki Minaj, Nick Jonas and Pharrell Williams have all been rumoured to be in the running for the judging roles.

Mariah is said to be pushing for a man to join her on the panel and is reportedly backing Lenny Kravitz for the position.

Kanye West is also rumoured to have expressed an interest.
