Clapton apologises for gig problems

Burnley and Pendle Citizen: Eric Clapton's show was upset by technical problems Eric Clapton's show was upset by technical problems

Eric Clapton has apologised after he walked off stage during a show in Scotland.

Fans were reportedly left disappointed after the Layla star, 69, left the stage mid-way through the song Cocaine during the concert at the Glasgow SSE Hydro.

However, the rock legend's spokesman has now explained that the unexpected break was due to technical issues, reported the Daily Mirror.

The rep said: "Unfortunately last night we experienced a steadily worsening technical problem with the PA system that the band battled with throughout the show.

"But by the last song of the set it became unbearable on stage and Eric was unable to complete that number.

"During the encore break we were able to reset and the band finished as planned with the last number.

"The usual touring set length runs at 1hr 35 mins so in fact the full set was performed apart from the entirety of Cocaine which had to be curtailed.

"Eric is nevertheless sorry for the break in the concert."

A statement issued by the Hydro said: "'The production team for last night's performance suffered a technical issue which resulted in the concert ending earlier than anticipated.

"By the time the venue had been made aware of the circumstances patrons were already leaving the bowl. However, our stewards and staff did their best to convey this information as it became known."

"By the time the venue had been made aware of the circumstances patrons were already leaving the bowl.". Well that's rubbish. They were dismantling the set and the full house lights were on when people started to leave. We all thought he was going to come back on for an encore. Very disappointed with the ending. Eric, you're a professional, but you didn't deal with it like one!

I feel sorry for the audience, but I can't help thinking "well that serves you right!". Clapton has been going through the motions for years. I've seen better blues guitarists on the local open mic scene.

a friend of mine went up from lewes for this gig, his account matches EDWEDW a downer to an expensive weekend.

You don't just walk off. Whether you are Eric Clapton or a pub band you don't just leave the stage. Unless of course you can't be bothered and have no respect for your audience.
