Mark Wahlberg was drenched in green slime at the Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards, even after he touted himself as the "unslimeable" host.

The Lone Survivor star narrowly avoided encounters with the sticky green goo throughout the awards show, despite the best efforts of his Transformers: Age of Extinction castmates, but he was eventually defeated when his own children turned on him.

Early on in the show Mark declared he was "too smart and too fast" to be slimed during the awards ceremony but at the very end of the show his children told a knock-knock joke that resulted in green liquid pouring down on his head.

Wiping slime from his eyes on stage at the Galen Centre in Los Angeles, the former rapper said: "Is there any more slime in the building? I can't believe my own kids turned on me but this is the best day of my life."

Adam Sandler and Jennifer Lawrence scored the top acting awards at the ceremony, taking favourite movie actor and actress respectively.

Robert Downey Jr collected favourite male butt kicker for his role as Iron Man, while Frozen star Kristen Bell collected the prize for favourite animated movie and Selena Gomez won favourite female singer.

Wahlberg was not the only celebrity to be doused in green gunge during the show; Happy singer Pharrell Williams and Big Bang Theory actress Kaley Cuoco Sweeting also got a healthy dose of slime, as did magician David Blaine.

The Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards will air in the UK at 5pm on Sunday March 30 on Nickelodeon.
