Sport Relief 'thrashing' for Murray

Burnley and Pendle Citizen: Andy Murray was a special guest on Mock The Week Andy Murray was a special guest on Mock The Week

Wimbledon champ Andy Murray showed he was game for a laugh when comics on Mock The Week served up a volley of gags at his expense during a Sport Relief special.

The normally taciturn tennis star is a guest for an edition of the topical comedy show with panellists invited to give him a "thrashing", while his girlfriend Kim Sears looks on from the audience.

Show regulars Hugh Dennis and Andy Parsons are joined by Milton Jones, Ed Byrne, Holly Walsh and Hal Cruttenden, who take it in turns to come up with comic scenarios involving Murray in two special rounds.

It will be the first edition of the show screened since show host Dara O Briain voiced concerns about the manner in which the BBC had imposed a ban on all-male panels for comedy shows.

Although he was keen to see better representation, he was uneasy about the corporation publicly announcing the change because he thought there was a risk viewers would see any female panellists as a "token woman".

The special edition of the show forms part of the Sport Relief night on the BBC to be broadcast on Friday, March 21. Mock The Week returns to BBC Two for a new series on June 12.
