Kinnaman: RoboCop suit helped me
Joel Kinnaman has revealed being naked under his RoboCop suit helped him get into character.
The actor has the lead role of Alex Murphy/RoboCop in the reboot of the 1987 sci-fi movie, and said although his 45lb metallic robot suit was less than comfortable it improved his performance.
"The suit was constantly uncomfortable, constantly at the wrong temperature, either too hot or too cold. But that was very helpful," said the Swedish star.
"I might have felt insecure and naked - because, weirdly, you don't wear clothes in the suit - but Alex would have felt 100 times that weirdness. It completely helped my character."
The film is set in 2028 and sees cop Murphy mortally wounded in the line of duty. He is rebuilt into a cyborg crimefighter, created by scientist Dr Dennett Norton (Gary Oldman).
The robot has two main weapons, a Taser gun in his thigh and a pistol that comes out of his forearm. He also has a docking station, which Joel was strapped into for many of his character's most traumatic scenes.
The 34-year-old - best known for his role in the US version of TV hit The Killing - revealed his co-star Gary helped him with some of those tough moments.
"I had to stay completely still. It took a lot of concentration and mental preparation to get there, but I also had the luxury of looking at Gary in many of those scenes," he said. "He always has truth in his eyes, so if my mind would wander for a second, I'd just look back at him."
The film also stars Michael Keaton, Abbie Cornish and Samuel L Jackson.
