Whedon: Spader was top Ultron pick
Joss Whedon has reportedly revealed that James Spader was his "first and only choice" to play Avengers villain Ultron.
The director, who announced that the Lincoln actor would be portraying the evil robot in the Avengers sequel, Age Of Ultron, said James is the perfect fit for the character.
"Spader was my first and only choice. He's got that hypnotic voice that can be eerily calm and compelling, but he's also very human and humorous," the filmmaker apparently said on Marvel's The Watcher show.
Joss is said to have added: "Ultron is not Hal (from 2001: A Space Odyssey). Spader can play all of the levels. He's the guy to break the Avengers into pieces. Muwahaha."
Robert Downey Jr, Scarlett Johansson, Mark Ruffalo, Jeremy Renner, Chris Hemsworth, Chris Evans and Samuel L Jackson are all expected to reprise their superhero roles for the movie.
Aaron Taylor-Johnson is in talks to play Pietro Maximoff and Quicksilver, while Elizabeth Olsen is rumoured to be in the running to portray his screen sister Wanda Maximoff and her Scarlet Witch alter-ego.
Production on The Avengers: Age Of Ultron is set to get under way in London in March 2014, with the film to be released in May 2015.
