Elton John is set to perform a Liberace tribute at this year's Emmys.

The Rocket Man singer has been booked for an appearance at the TV industry's biggest night of the year.

He will be taking on the Liberace theme in recognition of Steven Soderbergh's HBO biopic, Behind The Candelabra, being in the running for 15 awards on the night.

Elton's performance will accompany an appearance from the film's stars, Michael Douglas and Matt Damon, who are due to present during the show.

Other star presenters lined up for the Emmys include Kerry Washington, Diahann Carroll, Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, Zooey and Emily Deschanel, Allison Janney and Anna Faris, while Neil Patrick Harris hosts the ceremony for the second time.

American Horror Story is leading the nominations with 17 nods, Game Of Thrones is close behind with 16, and Saturday Night Live ties with Behind The Candelabra on 15. SNL's nominations include one for Justin Timberlake for the outstanding guest actor in a comedy award.

Elton is set to release his first studio album in seven years, The Diving Board, on September 24 and the Emmys will be held on September 22.
