Terrence Howard has landed a role in upcoming thriller Prisoners.

The Hustle And Flow actor joins an impressive cast which already boasts the likes of Hugh Jackman, Jake Gyllenhaal, Melissa Leo and Viola Davis, according to Deadline.

Maria Bello and Paul Dano also have roles in the movie.

The film is about a carpenter (Hugh) who takes the law into his own hands after his daughter and her friend are kidnapped. He comes up against a detective assigned to the case (Jake) who is said to be "a hot shot cop with confidence to burn".

So far it isn't known who Terrence is set to play in director Denis Villeneuve's movie.

Principal photography starts in February and Prisoners is expected to be released later in 2013.
