NELSON came within five minutes of a point with a battling display at promotion contenders Salford City.
The Blues took a shock lead when Alex Mugan nipped in to rob home keeper Martin Campbell and cross the ball from the by-line for Gary Smith to head in.
Nick Jackson-Cooney's side almost doubled their lead when Mark Banyard's shot hit the post.
Five minutes after the interval, Salford fired their equaliser through Stephen Brackenridge.
With five minutes to go, Jon Robinson forced Blues goalkeeper Billy Carrington into a brilliant save but, from the resultant corner, Robinson scored.
