Calls are growing for Adam Wharton to be named in Gareth Southgate’s England squad for the Euros this summer.

Wharton has made a seamless transition to Premier League football since his big money move from Rovers to Crystal Palace in the January window.

The 20-year-old has made 14 appearances for the Eagles so far, quickly becoming an important member of Oliver Glasner’s squad.

He gained plaudits from fans and pundits alike after an impressive display during the 4-0 victory against Manchester United on Monday night.

United youngster Kobbie Mainoo made his England senior debut earlier this year following a rapid rise at Old Trafford. However, Wharton was the name on everyone’s lips after the final whistle at Selhurst Park.

The youngster was called up to the England Under-21 squad for the first time a couple of months ago and came off the bench during the 7-0 thrashing of Luxembourg in Bolton, replacing James McAtee for the final 20 minutes.

During his press conference ahead of the United clash, Glasner said: "He has stepped up so quick and is adapting to Premier League football and the intensity, the speed of the game.

"His decision-making, his pre-orientation, his solutions with one or two touches are amazing.

“But also we have to stay calm. I always wish the best for my players and the more successful, the more international games, the better it is because everybody wants to play for his home country.

"I don't know if it is the right moment for talking about the Euros but he will have a fantastic career because, again, he is a very good guy and an extraordinary football player."

Palace are enjoying a strong finish to the campaign, having won four of their last five matches including a 1-0 victory at Anfield.

Wharton told BBC Sport: "If I get the call-up, wow, fantastic. If not, I will be recovering somewhere and then get ready to go again.

"I am never really satisfied with my performances. Even if I have a good game, I always remember the things I could have done better. That is just how I have always looked at games.

"You are never perfect. I want to try to be perfect but I am still only young a have got a lot to work on."

Glasner’s side currently sit 14th in the Premier League table and are back in action this weekend when they head to Molineux to take on Wolves.
