WHEN Manchester City visited Turf Moor in the Premier League five years ago they found themselves 3-0 up inside seven minutes on the way to a resounding 6-1 victory.

That fixture was just a couple of weeks later in the season than tomorrow’s meeting between the two sides and was played in a deluge that could easily have seen the game abandoned.

In front of the live TV cameras Emmanuel Adebayor, Craig Bellamy and Carlos Tevez scored in the first seven minutes, with Patrick Viera making it four on 20 minutes and Adebayor netting again on the stroke of half time.

Vincent Kompany made it six after 58 minutes, before Steven Fletcher netted a consolation for the Clarets.

Goals have been a common occurrence when these two have played each other recently, with 45 being scored in the last nine matches, at an average of five a game.

As well as the 6-1 victory City have recorded 4-2 and 6-0 wins at Turf Moor, as well as winning 5-1 and 5-0 at home.

But Burnley have held their own in the Premier League at the Etihad.

In November 2009 they led 2-0 through goals from Graham Alexander and Fletcher, before City hit back to take the lead thanks to strikes from Shaun Wright-Phillips, Kolo Toure and Bellamy, but Kevin McDonald rescued a point for the Clarets three minutes from time.

They drew again in Manchester earlier this season. This time City led 2-0 at the break, but Sean Dyche’s side refused to wave the white flag.

George Boyd scored two minutes into the second half, touching home a Danny Ings shot before Ashley Barnes completed the comeback.
