SEAN Dyche followed Jose Mourinho into the press conference room at Stamford Bridge and looked taken aback by the grilling he received about what the Chelsea boss had said about Ashley Barnes minutes earlier.

Here is how Dyche's discussion of the game's controversial moments went.

Q. There’s been a lot of talk about the incident that led to Matic’s red card, what was your view on it?

A. I’ve only seen it as it happens, it was a coming together on an odd sort of angle of two players. I thought Barnesy gets the ball, his foot follows through and their lad’s comes up underneath and it lands on his leg. That’s how I recollect it as it happens, I must make that clear, I haven’t seen it again. Then he (Matic) reacts in the way that he did.

Q. It looked like a studs up reducer.

A. A studs up reducer? I’ve never heard of that one... I can only give my recollection. I will look back on it, I’ve come straight up to do the media so I haven’t seen it but if that’s a big talking point, I think there was more to the game than that because I thought we were excellent today, particularly in the first half I thought we were very good.

Q. It is a big talking point because at that point Chelsea were 1-0 up.

A. Absolutely fine and you are welcome to talk about it.

Q. Do you think Barnes might face retrospective action?

A. I have no clue. I haven’t seen it again, on my recollection as it happened then I would be surprised but who knows? The powers that be will decide that. I think there are probably other incidents in the game that they will look at if that was the case, I’d be surprised if they didn’t.

Q. Do you want to name those incidents?

A. No, I haven’t seen them back again, I can only give an instant reflection so there would be no point until I see them and have factual evidence.

Q. Has Ashley said anything to you about the incidents?

A. Absolutely not, he said, ‘Well done lads.’

Q. Sean, can I show you the incident? (reporter produces iPad with replay of challenge with Matic)

A. No thanks, I got a better view than that.

Q. We need your comments about what happened in the game.

A. I’m quite happy to give you my comments but to see that now in 30 seconds rather than to give a reflective view after studying it, which is if there is any retrospective look, which they will do by the way, they will study it, then I would be more than happy to do that but I won’t be doing it now in an iPad from your reflection, I’ll be looking at it myself.

Q. Barnes was also involved in the first half on Ivanovic, Mourinho said he should have been sent off.

A. Involved in what sense? In playing football? I’m flummoxed by that. What am I meant to have seen?

Q. A charge in the back.

A. A charge in the back? Is there anything else? Was the grass too short?

Q. If you want to get your retaliation in now...

A. I’ve got no retaliation whatsoever, I have total respect for Jose Mourinho, for Chelsea Football Club and his players. No retaliation whatsoever, fantastic manager, fantastic club. I always keep my counsel about myself and how I conduct myself, that’s important, I’m conducting myself on behalf of myself, my players and my football club.

Q. I appreciate that but it’s only fair if there have been accusations...

A. It’s only fair if you ask me a question I give you an honest answer and that’s exactly what I’m doing.

Q. What was your opinion on the Kightly handball?

A. That was a long way from me, it goes at him very fast, we’ve just had a game against West Brom. We had a penalty not given, we had a push in the back not given and we draw 2-2. If decisions went our way today, c’est la vie. Over a season you hope that it brings balance.

Q. Just for the record Sean, have you got any problems with Martin Atkinson’s performance?

A. No. I try not to question referees, I did after the West Brom game but he has to officiate the game, I think it’s getting tougher and tougher for referees.

Q. Costa went down in the box, beating the ground, what was your view on that?

A. That does look like a shoulder to shoulder challenge. I didn’t see any challenge from the waist down. I always think if it’s shoulder to shoulder it’s more or less how the game works. I didn’t see any legs tangling.

Q. Do you hope the achievement of today doesn’t get lost in all this debate?

A. It may do, it’s up to other people. I know what the lads give for the cause so that’s what I focus on.
