SEAN Dyche was left bemused by a barrage of questions about two Ashley Barnes challenges after Burnley’s 1-1 draw at Premier League leaders Chelsea.

The Clarets claimed a point at Stamford Bridge thanks to Ben Mee’s late equaliser, after Nemanja Matic had been sent off in retaliation to a tackle by Barnes.

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho also felt Barnes should have been sent off for a foul on Branislav Ivanovic in the first half.

Asked about the challenge on Matic, Dyche said: “I’ve only seen it as it happens, it was a coming together on an odd sort of angle of two players.

“I thought Barnesy gets the ball, his foot follows through and their lad’s comes up underneath and it lands on his leg.

“That’s how I recollect it as it happens, I must make that clear, I haven’t seen it again.

“Then he (Matic) reacts in the way that he did.

“I will look back on it, I’ve come straight up to do the media so I haven’t seen it but if that’s a big talking point, I think there was more to the game than that because I thought we were excellent today.”

Asked if he expected Barnes to face retrospective action for the challenge on Matic, which was not given as a foul by referee Martin Atkinson, Dyche said: “I have no clue, I haven’t seen it again.

“On my recollection as it happened I would be surprised but who knows? The powers that be will decide that.

“I think there are probably other incidents to the game that they’ll also look at if that was the case.

“I think it would be a surprise if they didn’t.”

A member of the press then attempted to show Dyche a replay of Matic’s tackle on an iPad.

“No thanks, I had a better view than that,” Dyche said.

“To see that now in 30 seconds rather than giving a reflective view after studying it, if there is any retrospective look, we’ll study it, I’d be more than happy to do that but I won’t be doing it now on an iPad.”

Dyche was then quizzed about Mourinho’s claim that Barnes should have been sent off for his involvement in a challenge on Ivanovic before half time.

The tackle drew little attention at the time and Dyche was not even sure which incident he was being asked about.

“Involved in what sense? Playing football?” he said.

“I’m flummoxed by that, what am I meant to have seen?

“Is there anything else? Was the grass too short?

“There’s no retaliation whatsoever from me, I have total respect for Jose Mourinho, Chelsea Football Club and his players.”
