SEAN Dyche has no doubt that his Burnley side will once again show the character to recover from Saturday’s 2-0 defeat at relegation rivals QPR.

Dyche admitted the loss at Loftus Road was ‘a head-scratcher’ after believing his players performed well enough to secure at least a point.

But the Clarets boss pointed to the mentality that has taken the club into the Premier League and seen them bounce back from a 10-match winless start to the campaign.

He sees no reason why his players will not respond in the same fashion again - starting at home to Southampton at the weekend.

“I think the belief has been good all season,” Dyche said.

“You’ve got to remember we’re a group who was written off an hour after getting promoted and then it only enhanced when we didn’t win for 10 games.

“I’ve been watching games - scouting as you do - and loads of fans come up to you and say we’d be delighted if you stay in this division because it’s a real story.

“It’s not throwing money everywhere, it’s just a group of players who want to develop and want to learn, guided by myself and the staff.

“It’s not broken, it’s dented, we take a knock but we come back and we’ve done that all season and we did it all last season.

“There’s a good mentality about the group so I’m looking forward to the next game.”

Dyche admitted his side were not clinical enough at Loftus Road but insisted that there was not too much wrong with the display overall.

“It is a bit of a head-scratcher because we delivered a performance that certainly should have got something, I felt,” said the manager.

“We haven’t been missing a lot of chances recently, it was only today really. I thought there was some really good play and we kept creating chances.

“I thought there were good signs that we’ve stepped forward in this division. There have been in the last four games, two wins and two draws.

“They’re a very experienced group at QPR, I know there’s a lot of expectation and you can understand some of it.

“They have spent money again, they have got that experience.

“We’re growing with that, but we’re having to do it on a weekly basis.

“I thought the feel of the game suggested we deserved more, but you don’t always get what you deserve in this game.”

It was Burnley’s first defeat since losing 3-0 against Arsenal at the Emirates on the first weekend of November.

Since that defeat in the capital, the Clarets have picked up eight crucial points out of a possible 12 with wins over Hull and Stoke City and hard-fought draws against Aston Villa and Newcastle.

So Dyche was left disappointed after seeing that four match unbeaten run brought to a halt - with Rob Green’s stunning save one of the key moments.

“There’s a tinge of disappointment, but it’s still a tough game against a very experienced side,” said Dyche.

“Rob Green made one absolute worldy save and another very good save from Scotty Arfield.

“We need to be more clinical, we knew that and we have started to be that, but we just weren’t today.

“I think they know they had a game today, but you take wins how they come and I certainly would.”
