THE defeat to Everton on Sunday was really upsetting for the fans and I’m getting worried about our home form.

It is a big concern, we need to be strong at home in this league. We were very strong at home last season, Turf Moor was a fortress, but now the defence has gone the other way, they are conceding too many goals and too easily.

I think Jason Shackell is having a hard time, he looks like he’s out of his depth at the moment, he hasn’t adapted as yet. He’s a good skipper but he’s not talking, his confidence has gone, he used to be talking to them all and it worked.

He was the leader of the team, but his confidence has been affected.

Half the goals we have conceded have been headers. I was a striker and if you get a header in the box then the defender is letting you do that. It’s the defender’s fault, he shouldn’t be letting his man get to the ball first.

On Sunday we could also have stopped it from the cross. Leighton Baines likes to overlap and we let him do that a couple of times. He gets some great crosses in that way.

We conceded very early on, but I thought we got it back when Danny Ings scored his first goal in the Premier League. But it wasn’t to be as Everton got back in front and we were outplayed for long spells.

It got me thinking we are not good enough for the Premier League, and I do hope for a change in fortunes.

I personally cannot see that happening, for we never really troubled the Everton defence.

All I want, as do the fans, is the team to start winning games and to keep us in the Premier League.

I knew it would not be easy and now the players need to get their heads down and need to get their confidence back.

We couldn’t stop the Everton forwards, but like I have said before we are playing against international stars every game and we can’t contain them.

That’s 12 goals we have conceded in four games, when in the Championship we had the best defence in the league, but now it’s got harder against the top strikers in the world.

The Premier League is tough and we have certainly found that out by taking four points from a possible 27, it’s not good enough and we must start winning games if we are going to survive the long winter nights.

Getting clean sheets is a must and I’m sure the strikers will start to score and more importantly the fans will be giving their vocal backing which we had only in brief moments against Everton.
