TOM Heaton says Burnley will continue to ignore those who were quick to dismiss the Clarets as relegation certainties following their recent defeat at West Brom.

Burnley hit back from a 4-0 thrashing at the Hawthorns to claim an injury time equaliser at Leicester on Saturday as they moved back off the bottom of the Premier League table.

Many had started to write off the Clarets’ survival chances, just six games into the season, following the result at West Brom.

But goalkeeper Heaton has remained unconcerned by such assessments and says the only thing that matters is whether the Burnley squad retain their own self-belief.

“Every game in the Premier League is going to be tough, so on the back of a result like the one at West Brom you need to find something within and I think we certainly did that.

“The way we went about it was much better. I think we showed character last year and we certainly showed it on Saturday.”

Heaton has now turned his focus to Burnley’s next run of games after the international break.

The Clarets host West Ham United on October 18 and Everton eight days later, before a difficult trip to Arsenal on November 1.

Then comes another home game against Hull City on November 8, and Heaton believes Burnley need to concentrate particularly on trying to get wins from their next three matches at Turf Moor.

Burnley are yet to taste victory this season.

“There are a lot of positives from Saturday and we’ve got three home games in the next four games now,” the keeper said.

“Obviously it’s a run of games we can look forward to. It’s very much about trying to get wins now.

“I think if we play like we did on Saturday and go about it in that manner, we’re going to give ourselves a great chance.”
