BURNLEY fielded a strong team for a Under 21 Premier League Cup tie tonight – but Michael Keane’s error after only 10 seconds put Hull City on course for victory at Turf Moor.

The Clarets named Keane and fellow September loan signing Nathaniel Chalobah in their starting line-up as Sean Dyche, watching on from the stand, looked to give both game time.

Neither has yet started for the first team since arriving on loan from Manchester United and Chelsea respectively, although Chalobah made his Clarets debut as a half-time substitute in Sunday’s 4-0 defeat at West Bromwich Albion.

Stephen Ward is another still awaiting his league debut after arriving from Wolves and the Irishman also started for the under 21s together with Alex Cisak, Danny Lafferty and Kevin Long.

But Burnley were behind after only 10 seconds when Keane’s short backpass allowed Sone Aluko to score for Hull.

Jamie Frost forced a save out of Eldin Jakupovic as the Clarets sought a reply, before Tom Ince saw a goal ruled out for offside for the visitors.

Cisak then denied Aluko but Will Aimson made it 2-0 in the 22nd minute when he headed home.

Keane saw a header go just wide in the second half but Burnley could not find a goal as they exited the Premier League Cup in the first qualifying round.

Burnley: Alex Cisak, Danny Lafferty, Kevin Long, Michael Keane, Stephen Ward, Nathaniel Chalobah (Luke Daly 80), Steven Hewitt, Nathan Lowe, Jason Gilchirst, Jamie Frost (Ntumba Massanka 80), Cameron Howieson.
