BURNLEY boss Sean Dyche has backed his forwards to find their scoring feet, providing they maintain and build on early Premier League performance levels.

The Clarets’ only goal since their top flight return came courtesy of midfield sensation Scott Arfield, although the Scot’s stunning opening strike against Chelsea cancelled out by the title favourites in a 3-1 defeat at Turf Moor.

Burnley were able to hang on to last season’s 26-goal top scorer Danny Ings over the summer transfer window, while Dyche brought in Marvin Sordell, from Bolton, and Lukas Jutkiewicz from under the noses of Wanderers. The 42-year-old added to his attacking options with the deadline day capture of George Boyd in a £3million deal from Hull City. Sam Vokes, too, is set to make his comeback from Ings and Jutkiewicz have started the season up front but have yet to get off the mark.

But Dyche admits he has no cause for concern because he is taking heart from how his troops have played so far.

The Burnley boss acknowledged the importance of getting off the mark, saying: “I think it’s helpful.”

But, he added: “I look at their performances, and I think their performances will grow.

“Ingsy is still working to find his feet at this level - why wouldn’t he be? He’s a young man going into a real tough level of football.

“Juke showed really good signs in pre-season, I thought he was excellent for large parts of the last game against Manchester United, (Ashley) Barnesy, Marvin (Sordell) who is still under the radar, but I still think there’s production to come from him.

“It is helpful but it’s not a guarantee, it’s a very tough level.

“You look at the strikers who do score a lot of goals at this level and they tend to be worth rather a large of amount of money.”

Ings is expected to be involved for England Under 21s against Moldova tonight after missing Friday’s European Championship Group One game with Lithuania due to illness.

Burnley’s deadline day loan signings Nathaniel Chalobah and Michael Keane both started for Gareth Southgate’s side in Kaunas, but Chalobah is ruled out after picking up his second booking during Friday’s 1-0 win.
