BY Saturday teatime the Clarets were propping up the remainder of the Premier League as no doubt most of football’s pundits thought we would.

Well let me tell you that I can honestly say that I don’t think I’ve ever felt so unconcerned about being bottom of the table.

Why? Because one, it is obviously early days and our current position is of no relevance whatsoever and two, having played the present top two of Chelsea and Swansea along with Man United we have realistically acquired the one point I thought we could get against this trio.

So three very challenging fixtures in and I would say we have acquitted ourselves very well, and all things considered have probably got what we deserved at the very least.

September gives Burnley the chance to record their first victory with games against Crystal Palace, Sunderland and West Brom, all teams I expect to be involved in the scrap come the end of the season.

What a couple of home games we have had so far with over 500 million pounds worth of talent on show between Chelsea and Manchester United. It’s been the stuff of Fantasy Football and great for the prestige and global recognition of Burnley Football Club.

I’d like to think I did my bit too after being interviewed by BT Sport before our televised game against the Reds on Saturday.

I said that I remembered Brian O’Neill’s 30-yard wonder goal sealing our win in 1968 and of course Robbie Blake’s thunderbolt in 2009 and on that basis tipped us to win again by a single goal. And who knows, if David Jones’ curling free kick was a couple of inches lower that may have been the case.

We fully deserved our point and our defensive rearguard was excellent, with United’s strikers all kept quiet by a great team effort. There is no game on Saturday due to the international break which gives us an extra week for a full on assault in September when I am sure we will start climbing the table.
