BURNLEY took their summer spending to almost £8million, and their recruitment drive to ten players with the transfer deadline day arrivals of George Boyd, Nathaniel Chalobah and Michael Keane.

Burnley set a new club record for a transfer window spend, with fees over £1m more than in the summer of 2009 following their last promotion, as the Clarets made late attempts to add specific rearguard reinforcements.

MORE TOP STORIES:

Chief executive Lee Hoos sealed a four-month loan deal for Manchester United defender Michael Keane.

Keane spent time on loan with Blackburn Rovers last season.

There was confidence in the Clarets camp that they might be able to secure a deal for Derby County captain Richard Keogh – just over two years after they signed Pride Park skipper Jason Shackell.

Keogh was brought in to replace Shackell following the centre half's £1.1million move to Turf Moor.

It was thought the 28-year-old might tread the same transfer path ahead of last night’s 11pm deadline, despite Derby last week rejecting a £1.5million bid from Burnley.

Reports of an improved £2.5m bid yesterday could not be verified. But Derby had stressed they had no intention to sell any of their players, and Keogh now seems set to sign the improved contract the Rams offered him once he returns from international duty with Ireland.

Burnley were also understood to have made an enquiry about Southampton defender Jos Hooiveld. The Dutchman yesterday joined Norwich on a season-long loan.

With the transfer window now closed, and no loan window in the Premier League, Chalobah proved to be the final piece in Dyche’s jigsaw until the window re-opens in the new year.

The 19-year-old has previously enjoyed loan spells at Watford in 2012/13 and Nottingham Forest and Middlesbrough last season, but Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho felt he was ready for the step up and to test himself at Premier League level, and Dyche agrees.

“He is someone we have been interested in for a while. I’ve followed his career journey and he did tremendously well at Watford, then had an indifferent list year, but I think players grow from that,” said the Burnley boss.

“My way of looking at developing players is not the same as anyone else. You have to take the rough with the smooth as you are developing as a young player and I think he has come out of that more rounded.

“I’ve had a chat with him and enjoyed speaking to him and I think he has something to offer us. He knows the challenge and he knows the strength of our midfield, in particular with David Jones and Dean Marney, and he was willing to take that on.

“He thinks this will be a good environment for him, which I do too.”

Boyd was at Turf Moor to sign his three-year contract yesterday, but Chalobah’s deal was completed by fax as he has met up with new Clarets team-mate Danny Ings on England Under 21 duty.

The duo are set to be involved in UEFA U21 Championship qualifiers against Lithuania and Moldova on September 5 and 9 respectively.

“I am really excited and looking forward to it. I met up with Danny and asked him a few questions, and he’s always got good things to say about Burnley,” said Chalobah.

Looks like some ok business for you lot in the end. Unfortunate thing is most of these lot were 3rd-4th choice signings in their position due to clubs demanding extortionate fees for players no better than decent. I commented on here saying I thought Dyche was sensible buying British because more often than not you pay for what you get, however if you're on a limited budget it doesn't half back fire. The three you've brought in could go either way, players with clear talent but lack Premier League experience and have a lot to prove. How Keane does I think will be dependant on Shackell, Keane's a good young player but needs guidance from a moor experienced partner, he lacks aggression at times and doesn't YET possess the ability to play a major role in holding the defence together in my opinion. However if he and Shackell can gel it'll be a very good partnership. Best o'luck.

Not sure where he will slot in automatically, maybe is to keep Duff and Shackel on their toes as I cant see him replacing any of them for the next game.

Hi multi-user troll.

Did you Sky+ Burnley's game against Man Utd?

Hope you enjoyed watching us give that £200 million side a footballing lesson.

Remember to Sky+ all those Burnley games, they will definitely be much more interesting and entertaining than watching Blackburn get their arses handed to them by the majority of the Second Division week in, week out.

Rooney, Mata, RVP and £60m Maria combined could not score against Burnley - I'd say that was a pretty good job.

Scunthorpe, Norwich, Wolves and Bournemouth - wow

And your best banter is that a Man Utd side containing Rooney, Van Persie, Mata, di Maria etc is a poor side?

An excellent transfer window for you lot.

Dyche really does know what he's doing, Keane was outstanding on loan for us and we'd have loved to have had him back given the current state of our defence. Sadly these days we cannot compete with you lot being in the Premier League and we have to pick up the dregs from other clubs.

Distinctly unimpressed with the business Bowyer has done bringing in three virtual unknowns for a season during which we must at all costs achieve promotion. Its simply not good enough and I think we're going to struggle all the way. I'd take mid-table now but I fear a relegation battle could soon be on us.

Funny, he keeps on signing Bowyer targets, maybe he just follows him round like a love sick puppy
Steven Reid ? what an impact he has had

Whoever Bowyer signs springs to the attention of Dyche, first Jones, now keane and treacy before him. He needs someone to spot players for him. Just like Howe provided them before

Question: How are the jealous ones coming on here and getting as many as 75 likes on their posts? Have we had a massive passing through of insanely jealous ones who daren't post but just click the view of any pointless idiot who's posted? If that is the case then they really are more disturbed than I thought. Some Rovers are welcome on here as their views are valid and arguments well thought out. A lot though could do well getting some kind of paid employment, or at least visit some government backed scheme for adult literacy. And who is this terminally insane fool who just posts about MOTD and relegated by February? Is he ill? If that is what passes for witty banter in Blackburn then thank goodness I don't live there.

Hi multi-user troll.

Did you Sky+ Burnley's game against Man Utd?

Hope you enjoyed watching us give that £200 million side a footballing lesson.

Remember to Sky+ all those Burnley games, they will definitely be much more interesting and entertaining than watching Blackburn get their arses handed to them by the majority of the Second Division week in, week out.
joint bottom , maybe better than actual bottom and living in hope after 3 games, Spending the equivalent of £1.50 on players, then bragging you gave a very poor MANU side a footballing lesson. Go and take some more before you blow
And yet Poor old Second Division Blackburn have been given footballing lessons this season by such footballing tyrannosauruses as:

Scunthorpe, Norwich, Wolves and Bournemouth - wow

And your best banter is that a Man Utd side containing Rooney, Van Persie, Mata, di Maria etc is a poor side?

Like your team - must do better
Look Chuckster you are going down Sweetheart, my God i have told you enough times have i not. Tell you what though you have got a guddun in Keane, fair play to Stone Cold on that bit of business, however please don't ruin this lad as it wouldn't be the first time would it.

Sky + MOTD,DAOF,cant wait, down by February.RTID
I bet you any money you like that we aren't relegated by February you sad loner.

Answer my question - did you Sky + the Burnley v Man Utd game?

Oh and do you still think that Blackburn are going to be 'Championship Champions 2015'????

Your predictions are as poor as the team you support, it must be awful being you.

Some decent comments from true Blackburn fans on here, we just need to ignore the idiots that have no real passion for football but would rather spend their time slating Burnley. If they truly think that we will be down by Feb and that Dyche doesn't know how to spot talent etc.. then it really does show how little they know about football.
Very impressed with the work Dyche and the board did yesterday and looking forward to the game against Palace!!

Come next May we will be 10th and BFC fans will be on Sky Sports ‘relegation crying’, Dyce will have gone and the £3800 or so Bob Lord end fans will be baying for the Directors heads - JUDA ASSS they be screaming. It’s all heading for what is already a certainty - the lowest points a promoted team have collected in the PL. it’s going to make a mockery of the proud achievements we did for East Lancs football, only to be sorely let down and discredited by our lovely neighbours with second hand PL players.

Oh dear, oh dear! We've heard t ALL before haven't we? Last time we were in the prem we passed the lowest points total ever after about half a dozen games, in fact we were virtually at the half way point after 3 games. I really can't understand a lot of Rovers fans, I really can't. Why are you so utterly bitter about our recent rise to your fall? Why do you keep making such ridiculously deluded predictions? For a bunch of supporters whose team is languishing in the glory of mid-table championship football you don't half have an unbelievable superiority complex. I'm willing to bet any of you that we don't have anywhere near the appallingly low total achieved by Derby.
I'm going to throw out an honest question to all decent Rovers out there. Why do some of your supporters seem to think a wish list is some kind of bona fide, factually-based prediction? Sure we may get relegated, Burnley fans aren't going to cry over that, it's half expected so anything 17th or better is a bonus. And do any of you (and again I'm asking for intelligent answers from Rovers who I know are capable and who I don't automatically ignore) believe you could do any better if you had actually scraped over the play-off line and got promoted? Your team is not in as good a shape as ours and you wouldn't have been able to spend any money.
I'm not having a go at Rovers as such (there's nothing I can say or do that will make your problems any worse), I'm just genuinely interested in the state of mind of some of your more deluded fans. And before you reply, I know that some of our fans come on your site and give stick, or so I'm told, but at least we have some bragging rights, in just the same way you lot had for a few years and absolutely gloried in it. What mystifies me is the apparent "bragging" of some Rovers who don't seem to have accepted the idea that, for the moment at least, the tide has completely turned.

You're absolutely right. My point earlier was that even though this is the case they still believe that they are a big club. I remember that fateful day years ago when Rovers declared that their natural enemies and rivals were Man United, a statement which was greeted with howls of laughter from Old Trafford. A United fanzine at the time answered by saying that "Rovers natural rivals are Burnley, who have better supporters who would fill the away sections at OT, not sell them to United fans" (their words not mine). How things never change, eh?

Distinctly unimpressed with the business Bowyer has done bringing in three virtual unknowns for a season during which we must at all costs achieve promotion. Its simply not good enough and I think we're going to struggle all the way. I'd take mid-table now but I fear a relegation battle could soon be on us.
Funny, he keeps on signing Bowyer targets, maybe he just follows him round like a love sick puppy
Steven Reid ? what an impact he has had
When we actually plays we might see. The thing about Kean coming to Turf Moor is that it could have created a precedent of more Rovers players wanting to cross the divide , or out another, better, way step up a league and join a better team. Although I think there are only two that may interest SD.
I think any potential defectors might wait to see how you go on this season Chuck before thinking about crossing the divide...lol
I mean t.i.t.s. not Chuck.....

Credit where credits due, a good bit of business by the dingles. Interesting to note the potential bottom 6-8 strengthening their squads and without yesterday's deals Burnley really would have struggled as the current table shows. Now it gets interesting
Absolutely, everone has been strengthening. It will all come down to who has done tne the better business...

Define "a few years". I was meaning the "Walker years" and slightly beyond (the Walker legacy years). Yes it was a while but prior to that we had our dominance also. The history of our proud clubs is one of periods of dominance for both. We, for instance, had 24 years unbroken tenure in the top flight whilst Rovers spent a lot of time in the lower (mainly second) divisions. Now it's our turn, it probably won't last but we'll enjoy it while we can. I'm sure Rovers will overcome their current problems (and frankly, I hope they do) but I think it will take some time because of the damage already done. But, until the madness of money that is killing football is over, neither Burnley nor Rovers can hope to be a long term top flight club. Neither of us are big enough or rich enough without a benefactor,r and you've had yours, there will never be another Jack Walker. As much as we moaned about him he was a true Rovers fan, willing to put his considerable money where his mouth was, but I don't believe you will see his like again.

When you're up there challenging them for the Premier League title, naturally such allegations will be made. Something you wouldn't understand.

What ARE you talking about? Read my post please. What allegations have I made? The above is all true! As for challenging for the Prem title, we won't, and neither will you again. You won it with Jack Walkers money, we won it with no financial backing whatsoever. Now you're going too say, "You've never won it" aren't you? It's the Championship of England, it doesn't matter what name you give to it. It could be called Thwaites Football First Division, or the Dog and Duck Championship, it doesn't matter, the end result is the same: the winners are the champions of England and, much as it pains you too hear it, we've won it as many times as you lot in the last hundred years, i.e. twice.
