We got dragged into Burnley dogfight, says Manchester United boss Van Gaal

LOUIS van Gaal believes his side got dragged into a dogfight against Burnley as Manchester United drew 0-0 at Turf Moor this afternoon.

The Clarets had the better of the first half of the Premier League clash, hitting the bar through David Jones early on.

Manchester United improved after the interval but Van Gaal admitted he was not happy with the result.

“It’s a disappointing result,” the Dutchman said.

“I think that in the first half we did the same as Burnley did, fighting, and I think we have to play the ball against teams like Burnley.

“In the second half we did much better and created many more chances, but then you have to score out of the chances and we didn’t do that.”

Van Gaal handed a debut to £59.7m British record signing Angel Di Maria, but the Argentinian did not make a huge impact and went off after 70 minutes after suffering an injury.

“It was a precaution, it was a kick on his calf,” the manager said.

“It was not the world class player that we have seen, but you cannot expect that because he has to adapt to the English culture and the English way of playing and also to his fellow players.

“His fellow players also have to adapt to his way of playing, and that needs time.”

Dragged into a dogfight? No Louis you weren’t good enough and had Ings been able to repeat last year’s from you would have probably lost.

Can't imagine his players think more of him than Moyes. The talent on that pitch was in Claret and Blue, the heart was all ours, the Dyche won the tactical battle. A very jaded and disjointed performance which is lucky for us, but take nothing away from the lads they were awesome. He couldn't day that so he blames his strikers - bad move I think.

United were lucky to escape with a point from what I've heard. Well done Burnley, showing the rest of us how its done.

Ing's hasn't even got warmed up yet, and with Sam Vokes to return the Good times are ahead for you lot.

The United magic retired when Fergie did.

He has them playing 3 -5 - 2 and they looked like they couldn't understand it. As to his comment welcome to English cootball Louis thats how it is - combative. Wait till you play Stoke. Fact is this guy has managed teams in leagues where the same two or three teams are top every year. Ajax Barcelona and Bayern

Gotta agree, United were sh1t and we matched them on every level. Utter sh1t. One season wonder boy devalues himself every week so he can jump for nothing

It says it all when the Dingles are crowing about a draw at home and 1 point out of 9. Face it you are not up to the top flight and will drop down to where you belong come May

But had such a successful season that they have earned the right to BE a top flight team. And that's what prompts your jealous and bitter post.

You lot really can't help yourselves can you. We just got a point against United, a point that, with the 3 opening games we had, we would always have been happy with. We now have half a dozen far less difficult games (on paper). We weren't overwhelmed or disgraced against Chelsea (and check out their latest result for confirmation of how good they really are), we should have had a point at Swansea (all the pundits agree) and we got a point against United (who will beat better teams than us over the season). All in all I'm quietly confident.
Let's look at what you lot have achieved so far. You are slightly further into your season than us and are currently languishing 14th in the CHAMPIONSHIP. You were dumped out of the league cup by Scunthorpe, currently 4th from bottom of League One, and you have just been beaten out of sight by a team who were League One last season. Your next 2 games are a "6 pointer" against Wigan (who are a better side than you) and Derby (who are a MUCH better side than you).
Before coming on here uttering doom and gloom nonsense about Burnley I suggest you really do take a reality check at what is happening at your own poor club. All this against a back drop of the transfer window being still open (Rhodes?) and the FFP lurching ever closer. You could come on here and talk sense in the way your fellow Rovers Owd Nick and Darener do, but, no you just keep spouting your jealous nonsense. The fact is you would give a lot to have the chance of being spanked by the likes of Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool etc. but you haven't got the courage to admit it.
Just one last point, as someone has already pointed out, to use the mentality of the jealous ones, we haven't lost at home to United in 38 years, good eh?
