BURNLEY boss Sean Dyche has not ruled out making a signing before tomorrow’s home game with Manchester United.

The Clarets have three days left to bolster their squad and boost their chances of Premier League survival.

Attentions seem to have turned away from midfield target James McArthur after Leicester City and Crystal Palace entered the race and bettered Burnley’s £4million offer, which was rejected by Wigan Athletic.

The figure has now increased to around £7million for the Scotland international, which would be out of Burnley’s reach.

Southampton centre half Jos Hooiveld is the latest to be linked with a move to Turf Moor, although sources close to St Mary’s believe any departures would be unlikely until sufficient cover was brought in first, even though the 31-year-old is behind Jose Fonte, Florin Gardos and Maya Yoshida in the pecking order and is out of contract next summer.

In contrast, Manchester United smashed the British transfer record this week with the £59.7m signing of Angel di Maria from Real Madrid.

The Argentine is in line for his debut against the Clarets on Saturday lunch-time after taking United overall summer spend to around £130m.

Like Burnley, who have spent just £4m, they are awaiting their first win of the season.

But manager Dyche has emphasised to his players that the balance sheet won’t necessarily translate to the scoresheet, as an opening day win for Swansea a City at Old Trafford proved.

“It is all about our focus on our team delivering performances," he said. "Players come and go in football. It is teams that wins things. Very rarely is it individuals.

“And it is the way we work as a team, the demands we make on our team, is where our focus is.

“We can’t get too bogged down with the players we are playing against.

“I’m aware of them. Some of them are fantastic players. But I don’t really over-think about them.

"It is about us, how we deliver, how we go about our business, and it is about performances. And if you give good performances over time – you can’t guarantee every one – you will win football matches and that is our challenge."

Dyche would not speak about targets, but suggested he was getting closer to a signing or two.

When asked if that would be in time for Saturday, he replied: "Possibly."
