East Lancashire Coroner Richard Taylor was told that Mr Rayson, 54, was discovered with a used syringe nearby.

His daughter, Michelle Rayson, told Burnley Coroner’s Court her father had long-term drug and alcohol problems and suffered from anxiety.

She said: “He was a good dad. Drugs and alcohol took over his life.”

Traces of alcohol, diazepam, amphetamines, morphine and the prescribed anti-psychotic drug metopimazine were found during a post-mortem.

Recording a verdict of drug and alcohol-related death, Mr Taylor said: “His own personal demons were too much.”
