A FRESH push is being organised to market homes in a Nelson street which have been fully revamped as part of a multi-million pound regeneration scheme.

An open day has been arranged by Pendle Council in a bid to encourage sales in the Mosley Street area of Whitefield.

Major refurbishments were undertaken on properties across the district as part of the former housing market renewal programme.

But critics of the scheme, including former mayor and Whitefield councillor Nadeem Ahmed, have called for more focused efforts on filling the vacant properties.

Last September he voiced fears that the Mosley Street terrace was becoming a frequent target for burglars.

Residents of revamped homes in nearby Albert Street also complained about flooding issues in 2013.

Larger family homes have been created in Whitefield by developers knocking through adjoining terraced houses creating “Tardis” properties which housing bosses hope will prove attractive.

Council leader Cllr Joe Cooney, who is also lead member for housing regeneration, said: “This event marks the completion of the £9million transformation of this historic part of Nelson. I urge people to come along and see the new Whitefield.

“Years of hard work and investment have radically improved this historic neighbourhood and made it into a fantastic place to live.

“Whitefield has a £9million new infant school and nursery rated ‘outstanding’ by Ofsted’ close to Nelson’s improved town centre and our beautiful Victoria Park. This is now an ideal place to bring up a family.”

Homes at the nearby old presbytery site, now renamed Marsden Rise, redeveloped with Great Places Housing Group, will also be showcased as part of the event on Saturday. An online portfolio for the two sites has also been established on the council’s website – pendle.gov.

Council bosses are offering a range of incentives for would-be householders, including five per cent deposits, through an assistance scheme, or 80 to 95 per cent mortgages through Help To Buy.

Housing regeneration manager Julie Whittaker added: “We will have a team of friendly staff to discuss a range of offers which make buying a Whitefield house much more affordable, including for first-time buyers.”
