A BIKE training firm which gives youngsters and adults the chance to get in the saddle has been left counting the cost after thieves stole bicycles worth more than £20,000.

An appeal has now been issued by Kirsti Grayson, of Go Velo, for enthusiasts to be on the lookout for a series of distinctive bikes which were taken from shipping containers in Trawden, near Colne.

One of the models, emblazoned in the company’s livery, is worth around £6,000 and it is thought that between 15 and 20 high-value bikes were removed in total.

The firm offers Bikeability training for the likes of Lancashire County Council, Pendle Council, the borough’s leisure trust and schools partnerships in Pendle and Rossendale, which also takes Kirsti into schools in the Hyndburn, Ribble Valley and Chorley areas.

Kirsti, who lives in the village, said: “It is the young people and adults who we provide bikes for who will be worst hit – it’s fairly sickening really.”

The bikes stolen include a black and blue Go Velo road bike with a carbon frame.

There was also a white Ribble Sportive road bike, a black and blue Go Velo road bike and a grey Giant Terrago hybrid bike.

Other models taken were a white Forme Stag hybrid bike, a red and white Specialized Rockhopper mountain bike, a black Specialized Rockhopper mountain bike, a black and yellow Carrera road bike and two black and two silver Claud Butler Urban mountain bikes.

Thieves also fled with camping equipment, tools and bike stands.

PC Mark Wilcock, who is investigating the raid, said: “Many of the bikes stolen were of a high value.

“And if anybody has any information at all with regards to where these bikes are now or can tell us who is responsible for the burglary then please contact police.”

Potential witnesses are being asked to call Lancashire Police on 101, quoting the reference number EG1500832 or the Crimestoppers hotline, in confidence, on 0800 555 111.
