PART of a main road in Colne was closed last night after a fire at an industrial building.

Four fire crews from Colne and Nelson were called to the scene in Regent Street shortly before 7pm after receiving reports of a building on fire.

Around 20 fire fighters tackles the blaze which saw damage to the building and to four parked cars near the premises.

Investigations are been launched by the police and the fire service and the fire at AquaSpira, which makes pipes, is being treated as suspicious.

Regent Street was closed between Junction Street and Corporation Street for just under two hours while the fire was being dealt with.

Station manager Keith Whitley said: “We don’t know at this stage what caused the fire and investigations have been launched.

“We are treating the fire as suspicious and extensive damage was done to the inside of the building.”
