PRIMARY school children showed off their skills in a special end-of-year talent show.

Barrowford’s Got Talent takes place at the Rushton Street primary school every July.

On Thursday around 150 parents, friends and villagers packed into the school as judges rated 16 acts from across the school.

The competition came just days after the school made international headlines for a letter sent to their Year Six leavers, telling them that exams don’t assess what makes them ‘special’.

The head Rachel Tomlinson was praised for congratulating students on non academic achievements before sparking a debate over whether as a country we have become too exam focussed.

Sarah Metcalfe, PA to the head teacher, said: “This event epitomises and sums up what we say in that letter about how proud we are of the children and special they are.

“There was a lot of talent on show and it was a fantastic evening. It is standing room only every year we do Barrowford’s Got Talent, it’s a great way to celebrate the end of the year.”

Acts from the school auditioned to get on the ‘live show’ a few weeks ago, with 16 performing in front of the crowd yesterday.

They included singers, dancers, talented pets, musicians, actors and impersonators.

The five judges, including vocal coach Susan Eames, chair of governors Doug Metcalfe and dance teacher Lianne Tattersall, then whittled it down to three finalists, and then a winning act.

Street dance troupe Tiny Tempers were crowned the winners. They consisted of Year Five students Tayla Davenport and Ruby Hartley and Year Six pupil Sophie Chapman.
