A MAN and two children were involved in an accident when their tractor overturned on a rural Pendle road today.

Firefighters were called to help free the man after he appeared to become trapped underneath the vehicle following the incident at around 4.20pm.

Two crews from Nelson fire station attended the scene in Stang Top Road, Roughlee, to assist paramedics.

They used a longboard to carry the man to an air ambulance where he was taken to hospital in an air ambulance with unknown injuries.

The two children walked away from the accident unharmed.

Acting crew manager Neil Hardiman said ten firefighters spent around one hour at the scene.

He said: “The tractor had rolled over with all three inside. The children had been taken to safety by the time we arrived but we had to help the paramedics with the adult.

“We treated it as a serious incident just to be on the safe side but it was unclear what injuries the man had.

“When we left the road was still blocked off as the police dealth with the vehicle.”

The North West Ambulance Service and North West Air Ambulance were unavailable for comment.
