PENDLE MP Andrew Stephenson has welcomed news the Government is taking action to tackle nuisance calls.

The plan sets out measures being taken by Government, regulators, consumer groups and industry to tackle nuisance calls.

New measures include making it simpler for Ofcom to share information about rogue companies.

Mr Stephenson said: “Well over 100,000 complaints were made about unsolicited calls between April and November and Pendle residents are among the hundreds of thousands of people plagued by these calls.

“For some, they are a real menace and we all want to see these calls stopped. I welcome the action being taken by the Government and hope to see more fines issued to deter nuisance callers.”

The action plan follows the Government’s decision to increase the fines that can be issued for silent calls from £50,000 to £2million, and up to £500,000 for unsolicited marketing calls.
