COUNCIL chiefs are set to continue with efforts to contact the owners of a derelict garage site in Brierfield.

Councillors in the area were keen on Pendle Council compulsory purchasing the land to allow the council to draw up plans for bringing it back into use.

But council officers are recommending that councillors on the executive committee do not push ahead with the compulsory purchase because there is not yet an approved scheme for the future use of the land.

Richard Townson, the council's democratic and legal manager, said: “However, the issue of the condition of the land needs to be addressed.

“Efforts are being made to contact the landowners and their representatives to see whether the condition of the land can be improved by agreement.

“Any responses to those requests will be reported to the meeting.”
