A YOUNG car thief will face a crown court judge after a drink-driving crash left a teenager with a broken leg on Colne’s high street.

Lee Phillips, 23, was arrested in the early hours of Saturday, according to police, when his Volkswagen Golf GTi car initially collided with a parked Vauxhall Vectra in Market Street.

The GTi then hit a 17-year-old boy, who has not been named but is from the Barrowford area, and he suffered a suspected broken leg, say police.

Phillips, of Kenilworth Drive, Earby, appeared before Burnley magistrates.

He admitted aggravated taking of the VW Golf and dangerous driving.

Phillips also pleaded guilty to driving with excess alcohol, driving without insurance and driving otherwise than in accordance with a licence.

Another charge of resisting a police constable was withdrawn by prosecutors.

He was committed for sentence to Burnley Crown Court, on March 17, on unconditional bail. An interim driving ban was imposeds.

Police are appealing for witnesses.
