A BOMB squad was called to Pendle Hill at the weekend after a walker stumbled across an unexploded device believed to be from the Second World War.The man discovered the suspicious device on a remote patch of farmland near Sabden on Saturday morning.
Royal Logistics Corps bomb experts attended and the area was sealed off as two technicians wired up the unexploded ordinance for a safe detonation.
A controlled explosion of the mortar was safely carried out around 4.30pm yesterday.
