A BOMB squad was called to Pendle Hill at the weekend after a walker stumbled across an unexploded device believed to be from the Second World War.The man discovered the suspicious device on a remote patch of farmland near Sabden on Saturday morning.

Royal Logistics Corps bomb experts attended and the area was sealed off as two technicians wired up the unexploded ordinance for a safe detonation.

A controlled explosion of the mortar was safely carried out around 4.30pm yesterday.

Still dangerous yes. But the headline would have been less sensational had it read MORTAR bomb found on Pendle Hill.When I saw the headline I thought it would be 10,000 pounder!
