Pendle MP welcomes Equitable Life Scheme
3:38pm Tuesday 15th October 2013 in Pendle
PENDLE MP Andrew Stephenson has welcomed the news that the Equitable Life payment scheme has been extended until 2015 to give policyholders every chance to come forward.
Making the announcement, Financial Secretary Sajid Javid said that £734m has already been paid out to almost 550,000 policyholders but that a number of policyholders were yet to be traced.
A national advertising campaign will be launched alongside the extension.
Mr Stephenson said: “The Equitable Life collapse was very badly handled by the previous government and many Pendle residents lost thousands.
“Because it took so long to set up a payment scheme, there are potentially a lot of people yet to be contacted or to come forward.
“By extending the deadline, the current Government is giving people more time to find out if they are eligible to receive any money owed to them.
“I welcome the decision and encourage anyone who thinks they may be eligible to contact the scheme on 0300 0200 150.”
