MP backs residents over Nelson 'eyesore'
1:05pm Monday 9th September 2013 in Pendle
PENDLE MP Andrew Stephenson has called for action over a disused building causing concern for residents in Nelson.
The building, on the corner of Barkerhouse Road and Marsden Hall Road, is described as ‘in a poor state’ by the council’s problem building list.
Neighbours have concerns about asbestos and describe the current condition of the site as an ‘eyesore’.
Mr Stephenson said residents deserved better, with the building ruining the neighbourhood.
He said: “The building is run down, boarded up and its appearance is bringing the look of the whole area down.
“The owner has to take responsibility. If they will not, legal action can and should be taken.”
Pendle Council is now set to take action over the site but will seek to contact the building’s owner first.
If they fail to get any co-operation, councillors say they are prepared to serve notices.
