Colne teenager fights off sex attacker
6:00pm Wednesday 4th September 2013 in Pendle
A 16-YEAR-OLD girl was sexually assaulted as she walked home alone after a night out with friends, police said.
The teenager was walking from Oak Street to Vincent Street in Colne around 1.40am on Sunday when she noticed she was being followed by a man.
He spoke to her briefly before sexually touching her over her clothing.
Police praised the girl for her bravery after she fought back, hitting her attacker, before running home and getting help.
The man was white, in his late 20s, around 5ft 9ins, and slim with facial stubble.
He was wearing grey jogging bottoms, a grey hooded jumper and a blue and white waterproof jacket.
Detective Sergeant Charlie Haynes from Pennine CID said: “Attacks of this nature are extremely serious and we are examining CCTV from the area and forensic evidence in our efforts to identify this man.
“The girl was shaken by her ordeal and demonstrated incredible bravery in fighting her attacker off.
“I urge anybody with information which would assist us in identifying this man to contact the police.
“You may have seen him earlier in the night acting suspiciously or fleeing from the scene in the early hours.
“You may know somebody who fits this description and was out in the area at the time of the attack. This is a serious attack and we will pursue every avenue in a bid to catch this man.”
Anyone with information can contact DS Haynes or DC Ian McLean at Pennine CID in confidence by calling 01282 472240 or 101.
