THE first phase of a £10million plan to regenerate two disused Victorian mills in Burnley has been unveiled by a regene-ration company.

Eight new industrial units, on the site of Finsley Gate Mill, are expected to bring dozens of jobs to the town.

Previously the mill and neighbouring Healy Royd Mill, were home to shoe and home-ware firm Lambert Howarth.

It was initially hoped that the company was going to relocate elsewhere in Burnley.

But last year the firm went into administration and seven people were laid off last month. The new proposals for Finsley Gate and Healey Royd mills are the initial step in a bid to revive the building, on the banks of the Leeds and Liverpool Canal.

The masterplan will eventua-lly see the old Healy Royd building converted into 52 one and two-bedroom apartments.

The Finsley Gate site would become a retail factory outlet, with offices, workshops for start-up businesses, studios and business units. Burnley's development control commit-tee will discuss the proposals
