A RECOUNT of votes for a controversial Burnley election is taking place today at the High Court in London.

The May 3 election for the Rosegrove and Lowerhouse Ward initially led to a tied result between BNP candidate Peter John Rowe and the Labour's Paul Reynolds.

But the returning officer then cast lots and declared Mr Reynolds the winner.

But Mr Rowe went to the High Court to claim question marks still hung over the validity of two - or even three - votes cast in the poll, and a judge ordered a recount at London's Royal Courts of Justice.

The recount will be supervised by a senior court official and a report prepared for the judge who will make a ruling at a later date..
