FRIENDS of a Burnley teenager who committed suicide will plant a tree and install a graffiti wall in his memory.

Sean Edwards, 17, hanged himself at home in November.

His sister Chelsea, 14, and her friends are running a fun day today to raise the money needed to add the memorials to the Brunshaw Action Group's Youth Zone.

Chelsea said: "We decided to do something for him because he was a popular lad who knew a lot of people round here.

"It's going to be nice to have somewhere like a tree to go to and remember him. We wanted to do something for him and the tree was my mum's idea, and then Brunshaw Action Group said they would help us raise the money."

Sean, a former pupil of Belmont School Padiham who had begun studies at Burnley College when he died, will also be remembered with a graffiti wall to be used by members of the Youth Zone club at Brunshaw Community Centre.

Chelsea needs £100 for the tree and the wall, and any more money raised from the fun day will go towards new equipment for the youth club, which is hoping to buy bean bags, computer games and a heater for the teenagers.

The fun day will be held at Brunshaw Community Centre from 1pm to 4pm, with a range of stalls and raffle prizes including a football signed by Burnley Football Club players, a food hamper, a bouquet of flowers and a gift voucher.

A spokesman from the Youth Zone said: "It's great that the kids want to do something for a member of the community who died so tragically. It's just a small amount of money that we need but they have all pulled together to make it happen."
