“WE are moving forward and it is going to be a very exciting time for the club.”

Now, who in the world of sport could have spoken these words – Roberto Mancini perhaps, the Manchester City manager who has just seen his side lift the title for the first time in 44 years?

Or maybe Roberto Di Matteo whose Chelsea team have, against all odds, reached an exciting Champions League final this weekend after overcoming the mighty Barcelona?

No – they came from the mouth of hapless Blackburn Rovers boss Steve Kean just 48 hours after his side was relegated.

I’ve heard about putting a positive spin on things but this is ridiculous.

I doubt any of the fans share his sentiments or optimism having witnessed the club going into freefall over the past nine months.

Go now, Steve, for all our sakes.
