Brian Gordon (Meadowhead, Blackburn) typifies the hundreds of good Conservative councillors who have lost their seat.

In his apology, David Cameron said ‘I am sorry for all the hard-working Conservative councillors who lost their seats, obviously against a difficult national backdrop.

These are difficult times and there aren’t easy answers.’ This patronising explanation only adds to the frustration of every Conservative voter who knows full well that austerity measures have to be imposed.

The ‘promises’ that won the General Election – EU referendum, human rights, immigration, crime and punishment, have been ignored whilst frivolous discussions about gay marriage in church have added to our woes from thousands of church-going Conservative voters who did not vote at all, and, if they did, voted Labour in protest.

That’s not to mention the futile pasty and granny tax.

We need to address, urgently, what is a concern to the nation. Ignore these issues and the last of our credibility will vanish.

The fact that a terrorist is walking our streets (EU intervention) and a respectable Englishmen is in chains in America says it all.

The increased anger among UK residents is a perfect breeding ground for a fanatic to attract millions of votes. Coun Konrad Tapp.
