30 new jobs for Burnley as Poundworld store opens
7:00am Tuesday 31st July 2012 in Burnley
AROUND 30 new jobs are set to be created when a new retailer opens in Burnley next week.
National chain Poundworld has invested £250,000 in a new outlet in the town centre. The family-owned retailer is set to open a new store in the Charter Walk shopping centre on Thursday, August 20, at 10am.
The shop, which sells more than 5,000 products, all for £1, will be opening in the Mall area of the centre, which has been undergoing investment in the last year since being taken over by Addington Capital.
Chris Edwards Junior, trading director at Poundworld, said: “We’re really delighted to be opening our first store in Burnley, creating 30 new jobs. Busy shoppers can take advantage of the great location in order to stock up on our fantastic offers and brands.
“We look forward to welcoming customers, and we hope our new store will prove a big hit with savvy shoppers in Burnley.”
The Yorkshire-based firm, founded in 1997, is planning to open a further 20 stores across the UK before the end of 2012, to add to its existing 170 outlets.
It already has stores in Accrington, Blackburn, and Nelson.

Quite fitting for the class of this small Yorkshire town.
I hear that 6 fingered gloves are expected to be flying off the shelf.

however don't complain when your non scum people stop coming to the town, when they are fed up with lack of choice , and fed up of watching the dregs of society buying CR*p from the pund shops.
If only town planners and councilors took a good hard look at towns that are sucessfull and tried to minic them.

If shops are stood empty what are the planners supposed to do?
They can't force other businesses to open up.
