A PENSIONER targeted by a clairvoyant scam has accepted an offer to meet with TV psychic Colin Fry.

Cecil Kershaw, 80, from Padiham, has been inundated with letters from spiritualist scammers claiming to be able to help him speak to his dead wife Maureen.

She died age 76 in September and days later the first offer came through Mr Kershaw’s door, asking for money for a service.

Mr Kershaw said he had received offers from this country, Netherlands and Hungary, asking for payments of between £19 and £37. He got 15 in one week.

He admitted being conned by the first letter because he was grieving and vulnerable and said he was ‘preyed on’.

Mr Kershaw said: “I still don’t know how they got hold of my address.

"I keep it very private and it wasn’t even in the death notices.

"The first letter was delivered to me, not ‘the occupier’, so there must have been something underhand.”

His late wife had an interest in mediums and had enjoyed watching Colin Fry’s shows.

After hearing of Mr Kershaw’s ordeal, Mr Fry said: “I think this is disgusting what has happened to Mr Kershaw, and I am appalled the way these fraudsters pick on the vulnerable.

“I read that Mr Kershaw’s late wife attended one of my shows in the past, and I would like to invite him to my show in Burnley on May 12, where I would be happy to meet with him privately.”

Mr Kershaw said: “I’m open minded about it. I agree with his comments that this scam is appalling.

“Meeting him is something I will consider. I wouldn’t mind talking to him.

“I don’t know if I will get anything out of it because I can take or leave this type of thing. But I’ll play it by ear.”

Both Mr Kershaw and the local police have warned other people to ignore similar clairvoyant letters targeted at bereaved families and not to give them bank details.
