New £1.5million mosque opens in Burnley

OPEN: Jamia Masjid Ghausia Mosque in Abel Street OPEN: Jamia Masjid Ghausia Mosque in Abel Street

A £1.5million pound state-of-the-art mosque has opened in Burnley after ten years of fundraising.

The Jamia Masjid Ghausia Mosque in Abel Street opening attracted more than 2,500 men from across the globe.

The mosque, which has been built to meet the demand for the increased number of Muslims in the area, was mainly fundraised for by residents in Daneshouse.

It has prayer facilities over two floors, a room to accommodate 500 women worshippers, a meeting room, control room, library, community room, office rooms, wudu rooms to prepare for prayer and classrooms.

work on the building started four years ago after years of fundraising but has only recently been completed.

The opening saw Burnley Muslim leaders, including Chief Imam Sajid-ul-Hashmi, welcome guests from, Holland, Norway, Pakistan, Spain and across the UK.

The day featured readings from the Quran, songs, prayers, food, speeches from scholars from Pakistan, Birmingham, Bradford and Nottingham and stalls selling clothes.

Zahid Khan, who is on the masjid committee for the mosque said: “We are delighted that the mosque is finally open.

“We have had an amazing response from members of the community who have worked together for the past ten years to get the mosque open.

“Almost 2,500 men came on Sunday, it was a huge success.

“The inside of the mosque is exquisite, it has been decorated with mirrors by a expert from Pakistan which took two years to complete.

"There is also marble from India, carpets from Turkey and light fittings and ceiling from Saudi Arabia.

“The work has been paid for by donations and fundraising all from members of the community and the work done to build the mosque has mainly been by local people.

“The mosque in Colne Road was too small and we needed a larger one to cope with the increase in the number of Muslims in Burnley.”

Oh what fond memories of a good nights spent in "The Robby St Club" which was cleared to make room for this building.

Illegally parked cars on Abel Street are already a nightmare, this is going to get far worse now. Can Parkwise explain why this street is a "no go zone" or does it need a small child running out from behind a parked car to be run over before any action is taken?

This post will probably turn into one of the usual racist rants over the coming days, quite ironic though that the security word for my last post was "dark-wife".
C'mon LET don't leave yourself wide open!

Obviously the women came on another day, because all the Sunday tickets had been sold.

Didn't they?

This is wonderful for Burnley and shows that Burnley will soon be another Bradford.Well done Burnley Council and town planners.Affordable housing is what Burnley needs not a 'male only retreat' !!

You can imagine the outcry over separate rooms for women if it was in any other environment than this one.

Before making adverse comments about the mosque ask yourself what are you doing about keeping churches open and if nothing... I would keep quiet..
Then take a look at all the churches that have become nightclubs, that shows the path lots of people are taking.
Everyone is free to believe in a faith
and freedom of speech is what this country is about but don't be hypocritical

There was a time when RC churches weren't allowed to be built in Britain and when Orangemen fought RC's on the streets of our cities.
Christian v Christian
Christian v Muslim
Hindu v Muslim
Jew v Muslim
All these religious groups have been(are) at loggerheads with each other for millennia sometimes killing each other in large numbers.Religion is about power and control of individuals, countries and continents despite what their leaders say. Most religions are led by males with the women in subservient positions. Just look at the arguments in the Church of England about women priests and bishops. Why do women put up with these male dominated organisations?

These big green domes seems to be springing up everywhere. How to they get planning permission when theres people on housing estates who get refused planning permission for a conservatory?! And shouldn't there already be funding in place BEFORE they start building?

Yet more censorship by LET !!
I will ask again .
The Labour party in Burnley constantly threw money at this area for 30+ years due to it being "the most poorest ,deprived area".
Yet it still resembles calcutta & these same residents manage to build a mosque costing £1.5 million.
Where as that money come from ?

... it was from the other side of the debate.. Nevertheless your question in my opinion was worth asking and maybe someone in authority will reply...............

this time you have not put your case as strong as the last one hence no censorship

Akon,
I can't speak for the present times but I remember 70 years ago Nun's (dressed in clothing similar to burkas) from the Roman Catholic Church visiting my relatives especially my poor grandmother to collect donations for the church. Times were hard but they willingly gave money to the church which meant many times the table suffered before the church. The RC churches had no financial aid other than from their churchgoers and look at the magnificent buildings they built. What happened to Catholicism and the Church of England is that the priests and parsons relaxed their hold on the parishioners and that started the decline in followers and buildings. In some other religions this has not yet taken place and the leaders are still the all powerful. I of no faith admit that when the Christian churches influenced people times were much better when living in a more law abiding society .

well look at it this way, if 2500 people attended the opening ceremony then all they would have had to donate during the course of the construction of this institute would be £600 each. As the members and well wishers of this institute are predominantly muslim, they abstain from indulging in Alcohol and other frivolous pursuits that their fellow townsmen have become 'accustomed' (trying not to use the word 'addicted') to.

so to put it in context for you:

all they seem to have forfieted in return for this establisment is a months worth of binge drinking, club going, playing the horses etc.

maybe you should try it....

you might find you can finally afford to cash a proper meal for your family rather than finance it by means of the local pawn broker!!!!!!

no Akon thats not what i believe,
and judging from your lack of intellect i spose its ignoramus like you that are the aliens amongst humans.
drugs, alcohol, prostitution, illegal sweatshop, staged car crashes with multiple whiplash claims and grooming of young white girls for sex is all a part of the scally white mans culture, which not only asians but members of al kinds of different backgrounds have gotten themselves roped into due to their own stupidity!!!
i really cant be asked wasting the time to give you a history lesson but if you care to educate yourself on the above crimes and historical statistics related to the above crimes, you will see that it was the common white folk that instigated all the above at some point in history!

as for the a***holes from amongst the asians that are tainting our reputation, its in everyones best interest that these dimwits be encouraged to visit the mosques more regularly as their reformation is in everybodys best interests!

Maybe you should pay a visit too, or are you content with the tiny bit of knowledge you currently possess?

Maybe thats what you need to take an interest in and you might find that individuals from your own lineage have been responsible for far bigger atrocities than that which are mentioned above! I am not racist nor am i prejudice however i am proud of my ethnicity - therefore am getting a little annoyed that everytime something whether news worthy or not is printed by LET that has anything to do with a member of an ethnic minority it always attracts racial hatred from these right wing fascist pigs.
i hope they would just carry on with their inbred ways and let the rest of us live in peace!
